Your Club Needs More Coaches

Your Club Needs More Coaches!

Oban Canoe Club has a policy of promoting the development of trip leaders and paddling coaches. As part of this, the Club would like members to consider putting themselves forward for the UKCC BCU Level 1 Coach award, with the initial aim of being involved in the training and development of our younger members. The Club will support the award costs; all we ask in return is that you commit towards developing into a qualified coach and returning that benefit to the Club.

The training course (using the one at Glenmore Lodge as an example) is 5 days long - a one day safety and rescue course and four days of practical training. The course runs at the Lodge 3 times this year, and it may be possible to arrange a modular course with another provider if that suited individuals better..

We are looking for 'a few good men and women' of Oban Canoe Club to take this step.

The cost to each person for the course will be subsidised by the Club, and further external funding may be available. Applicants need to hold the UKCC BCU 2 Star award (or the 'old' 2 Star awards in both kayak and open canoe) and to register with the SCA before the course, but if you do not already hold the award, the Club will help you towards you getting it.
